Happy Halloween! (Halloween Themed Activities)

It's going to be Halloween in a few days, and here we have come up with a few Halloween themed activities to keep our kids busy while learning!

The free printable at the end of this post includes the following:

- Hanging Spiders
- Pumpkin Feelings
- Halloween Memory Game
- Finding Rhymes
- Pumpkin Face

Hanging Spiders

This fun activity involves:
- counting fun,
- fine motor skills of using the scissors, hole puncher and
- lacing!

C had fun counting the number of big and small spiders on the worksheet, and she also added them all up! Thereafter, she cut out the spiders and helped to punch out the holes where she could hang them through a pipe cleaner.

All ready to use the hole puncher!

Lacing the spiders through a pipe cleaner.

This activity kept C busy for a good half an hour, and it's always great to see her having fun! :)

Pumpkin Feelings

C is learning to recognize and read words, and this activity allows her to match the descriptive words to the correct feelings shown on the pumpkins' faces.

Halloween Memory Game

Print, laminate and cut to play this
simple but fun memory game!
How to play:

1. Print, laminate and cut along the dotted lines.
2. Place picture cards facing up.
3. Memorize the positions of the cards.
4. Flip the cards and face them down.
5. Open two cards and try to find a match!
6. Try to match all the cards in the shortest time possible!

C got a match!

Finding Rhymes

There are three things in the picture above that rhyme. C found all three and wrote the words! :)

Pumpkin Face!

This is an alternative to carving a face in a real pumpkin as most people do during Halloween. C used a pair of scissors to cut out the pumpkin, eyes, nose and mouth. She then used glue to stick them on!

Ta da! A pumpkin with a face! :)

Doughnut Game and Doughnut Themed Fun!

It's been a sweet and busy week filling orders for Bites N Delights! Meanwhile, C and I were thrilled with a new game called Doughnuts on Doughnuts! It's a stacking game that tests your balancing skills!

It comes with:
- 12 doughnuts,
- 2 pairs of tongs,
- a doughnut dice,
- a teacup and
- a curved saucer.

The level of difficulty can be changed by stacking the doughnuts on the teacup or without.

Each player gets one point for each successful stack. The dice indicates the number of doughnuts to be stacked or removed, as well as the type of doughnut. The game ends when the doughnuts topple. Overall, a fun game that involves balancing skills and a little bit of counting fun! :)

Inspired by this doughnut game, we came up with these Doughnut Themed activities!

Doughnut Shop!

The idea of this activity is to match and prepare the customer's orders according to the order cards! I've also included the individual doughnuts for printing and cutting.

C with her customers Pororo and Woofy! Haha! :)

Making Doughnuts!

In line with our doughnut theme, we made real doughnuts for tea time today!

A really simple recipe that C and I used here: Quick and Easy Doughnuts

Dry ingredients: Flour, baking powder, salt and milk powder.

Wet ingredients: Egg, vanilla, shortening.
We mixed the sugar in too.
The egg mixture after whisking.

C mixed the wet and dry ingredients together.

Rolling into mini doughnut balls!

Deep fry the doughnut balls.
Ensure the oil is not too hot,
otherwise the outside will brown too fast,
leaving the inside under cooked.
Pretty tasty!
Hope these will give you some ideas for some learning fun! Wishing all a great week ahead! :)

Scissor Mirror Activity, French Fries Game, The Game of Life Junior and Making Our Own Pizza!

This week, C and I got busy playing and making! Here are some of the activities that we did:

  • Scissor Mirror Activity
  • French Fries Game
  • The Game of Life JUNIOR
  • Making Our Own Pizza

Scissor Mirror Activity

The other day I was showing C how to create a square from a rectangular piece of paper. We folded a triangle from one of the edges and trimmed off the excess. She was thrilled to see how that can be done!

We then tried to create different objects by folding squares in half and cutting them, resulting in different shapes.

C got a donut!

Ta da! An apple! :)
This activity helped to show C how to create whole objects from two halves. I've come up with a few simple shapes for your free download below:

French Fries Game

We just bought this really amusing game from Daiso (the two-dollar store)! It's really simple but loads of fun! It comes with a total of 18 french fries, and one of them is attached to the holder. Each player takes turns picking one fry, until the person picks the one that is attached to the holder and it pops! We declared the person who picked the special fry the winner! :)

We also did some counting fun while playing this game! A great and enjoyable way to introduce math at the same time. Inspired by this game, we came up with:

French Fries Game! The winner is the one who picks the fry with a pink heart at the bottom! :) You can also sneak in some counting fun while playing this.

The Game of Life JUNIOR

We bought this game called The Game of Life JUNIOR at the store. It comes with:
- a game board
- a spinner (number of moves)
- 4 player tokens
- action & VIP cards
- playing money
- stars

The objective of the game is to collect or earn stars by going around the board, doing tasks, or by visiting places of interest on the game board. You receive bonus stars if you visit a place that is stated on one of your VIP cards! The first player to get 10 stars wins!

One of the Action Cards. We had to spot the basket on the board!

No prizes for guessing who won here! Haha.
This is a pretty interesting game that introduces the idea of paying entrance fees for visiting venues on the board (some venues are FREE), earning extra cash by doing tasks on the Action Cards, taking turns and counting! Overall, a good game that is suitable for kids 5 and above. :)

Making Our Own Pizza!

Meanwhile, C had a great time making her own pizza this week! It was super easy and quick with this foolproof method. We used:

- Mini Sausages (Honey Chicken), baked and sliced
- Philly Cheesesteak (Beef Tenderloin cooked with peppers and onions) optional
- Pizza Crust (Sunshine brand - Ready to Use)
- Mozarella Cheese (Grated)
- Tomato Paste (Canned)

Step 1. Heat sausages in the oven at 200 deg C for 15 minutes till brown and cooked thoroughly.
Step 2. Spread tomato paste on the thawed pizza crust.
Step 3. Top with sliced sausages and mozarella cheese.
Step 4. Bake pizza at 230 deg C for 5 to 6 minutes till crust turns slightly brown at the edges.
Step 5. Enjoy!

You can choose any toppings you wish, just make sure they are cooked before placing on pizza crust. :)
Ready to Use Pizza Crust. Just thaw and bake
at 230 deg C for 5 to 6 minutes.

Final product! All ready in less than half an hour!
I hope you enjoy these ideas to keep our kids entertained while they learn! Till next time, have a wonderful weekend ahead! :)
