I remember growing up as a kid who LOVED pretend play. I was blessed to grow up in an era in which children had loads of time to play and have fun. Nowadays, it is quite sad to see kids boggled by so much schoolwork and extra enrichment classes, they have so little time to indulge themselves in activities they truly enjoy. So I'm quite relieved that C has some extra time before she starts school officially next year! We are enjoying the fun while it lasts!
Meanwhile, here are some ideas that we did for Pretend Play the past couple of weeks:
4.
Cook Like a Chef!
Let's Play Doctor!
One of C's favourite cartoon characters is Doc McStuffins (a little girl who loves fixing toys). To go with the doctor theme, we have created a printable where:
a. C can pretend to be a doctor for a boy named Tom who had hurt himself at the playground. It has a list of doctor's tools as well as Tom presenting with some injuries. C can decide which tools to utilize as well as prescribe treatment.
b. A patient form with check up details and diagnosis with prescription are included.
c. C can match parts of the body.
d. C can have some colouring fun!
Taxi Game
C pretended to be a taxi driver today. We set up the scene with some road signs we had printed out and pasted in various parts of the house. Then C picked 6 toys to be her passengers. A taxi stand was designated and she had to return to the taxi stand after fetching each passenger to his/her destination.

Road signs placed in various parts of the house. |
|
The taxi queue! Each passenger has a destination tag for C to match to the road signs. |
|
Fetching her first passenger. |
|
Passenger safely arrived at her destination! |
|
Reading the destination tag of her next passenger. |
C had so much fun playing this taxi game, she requested to play it over and over again! By the third time, she had no problems reading all the tags and remembered all the locations by heart. A great way to learn reading!
Be a Fruit Stall Vendor!
|
C is thrilled to have her very own fruit stall! |
C is pretending to be a fruit stall vendor here. We came up with a price list as well as some money tokens for her customers to pay her accordingly.
It was a fun way to learn counting!
Cook Like a Chef!
C enjoys watching cook shows, as well as help out in the kitchen. So here, we have a printable where she can refer to a simple recipe card and make her own pizza and burger. I laminated the printables so they are more durable. I also cut out the ingredients so C can assemble her own pizza and burger.

Adding the ingredients on the list. |

C's creation of a pizza! |

Building her own burger. |
Pretend play is so much fun and the things we can do are endless! I really hope C will continue to enjoy her childhood and that she will never lose her amazing imagination and creativity! :)
