Quiet Time Activities and Feelings Game!

As we will be heading overseas in a few weeks, I've been thinking about some quiet time activities that we can bring along for travel, especially for those long hours on board the plane. Here are a couple we've come up with so far:

Fill Up the Piggy Bank & Count the Coins!

For this activity, I used felt to create a cute piggy bank and a zipper that acts as the slot for insertion and removal of coins. C had fun playing with this, and she kept taking out coins to count and placing them back when she's done counting. A fabulous way to keep her busy while she works on her fine motor skills of opening and closing the zipper, while practising her counting.

I've included a reference here if you are interested in creating your own: Piggy Bank Activity!

Number Bond Activity with Beads!

Here, I've also used felt as the base material so that I could eventually put all the felt pages together to form an activity book. Some strings were used to lace up different numbers of colourful beads in rows from 1 to 10.

I then printed out number columns and number squares for C to form number bonds, using the beads as a visual aid.

Here's an example of placing number squares with column number 3.
C counting the beads for column number 5.
Placing the number squares to form the correct sums.
The idea of this activity is for C to learn that there are various ways of addition and arriving at the same answer. If you are also keen to create this activity, I've included a link to the printable: Number Bonds Activity! You can also use other items instead of beads. :)

The Feelings Game!

There are moments when C experiences a meltdown and those are the times that I wish I can help her handle her emotions better. So the other day, we came up with a wheel of emotions, so we could explore the different feelings people may experience one time or another.

The idea of this game is acting out the emotions on the wheel. Each player takes turns to spin the arrow, and whichever emotion the arrow lands on, we have to act out. Here are the many expressions of C below! Haha!

Happy! :)
Sad.
Embarrassed.

Angry.

Surprised!

Scared.
We also explored different scenarios and how in each scenario, the main character would feel.

Here's the printable where you can create your own Feelings Game!

Meanwhile, I will be creating more quiet time activities to prepare ourselves for our upcoming trip! Will share them next time! Wishing all a lovely weekend ahead! :)
